Is it just me????????

As I have alluded to here I have had medical issues that have plagued me for the last month and an half and yesterday was the first day I truly felt good.  That was until about 5:30 last night.  I met up with my girlfriend June to have dinner and then we were going to our quilt guild meeting or at least that was the plan.  What happened instead was that I followed her to this new restaurant she wanted to try, parked my car and then followed her to the restaurant except I took a little detour.  My foot hit a hole in the ground, I twisted my ankle, fell down on my knee and elbow.  As my elbow slammed on the ground my keys flew out of my hand and apparently they made it across this concrete slab to land perfectly on a bit of angled asphalt so that they could slide down and land in the storm drain.  Down the storm drain. Pure craziness.  Does this sort of thing happen to other people or is it just me?  After many phone calls to find out who was responsible for the storm drain we finally got someone to come out and open the drain to find my keys sitting on the bottom.  Thank God we have had a drought so he hopped in got my keys and I was one happy camper!  I now have a bruise coming out on my knee, a scraped elbow and one sore ankle but I am so grateful that nothing is broken and I have my keys back that I can deal with the bruises and scrapes.   By the way the restaurant we were going to was closed on Mondays so all this happened and the restaurant wasn't even open!   June's husband went and picked up my husband because it looked like I was not going to get anyone to open the drain so after that adventure the four of us went out to dinner and celebrated friendships.  So we never made the meeting but we certainly have a story to tell.

Have any of you lost anything to a storm drain?  If so I would love to hear your story, please share.

  3. Stampmouse- I hope you are right and this is it. Floating boats sounds like fun but I sure am glad that there was no water in the drain this time.

  4. No storm drain story, but there seems to be a lot of these things happening. Last Fri. I tripped on John's cousin's computer bag and fell face down flat on the living room floor. My knees still hurt. Then John's cousin split the back of her heel open while flipping to reverse directions swimming Tues. She has six stitches and walking with crutches now. Then Thurs. a friend fell at the bottom of an outdoor stair, and went to the emergency room. Now you fell and had the skidding keys/storm drain event. It's been a week!!! I'm so sorry to hear that all this happened to you but I'm glad that you retrieved the keys and I hope that the resulting aches and pains are subsiding.
